Fridays at the Piedmont Grille

Okay so I've designated Fridays for a bit of fun. Last week you all got to ask me questions, and for those of you who missed it (because there were awards going on) I give you another opportunity to ask me any question you want, about -- writing, my craft, the Regency, cooking, whatever you want.

This week I think, I would like to ask you a question. What is your favorite romantic movie? Or two or three or six.

Mine are:
LadyHawke with Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer (the cinematography is amazing)
The Wedding Date with Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney (such a cute story)
Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant (Jane Austen, who doesn't love Jane?)
Bull Durham with Kevin Costener and Susan Sarandon (baseball, who doesn't love baseball?)
The American President with Michael Douglas and Annette Bening (soundtrack -- I also loved the one she made with Warren Beatty, Love Affair)
A Good Year with Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard (favorite favorite favorite all time favorite)
The Story of Us with Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer (this is so much my fairy tale with a man I'll never marry)

So what's yours?

Does the Kevin Costner Robin Hood count? If so, then definitely that.

Also, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

Only You, with Robert Downey, Jr.

P.S. I Love You (even though it makes me cry like a baby.)

Summer -- Yes, Kevin Costener counts in most anything except WaterWorld I think. And it shames me to say I haven't seen any of those movies so guess what I'll be doing this weekend.

Only 2 I can think of off hand, though I'll probably come up with 10 more later, lol.

Notting Hill

The Notebook

Tara -- I've seen Notting Hill a few times. And I won't watch The Notebook because I know I'll cry and cry hard.

My all-time favorite love story movie is "Breakfast at Tiffany's." How gorgeous is Audrey Hepburn in that flick?? Honestly, I could watch her all day.

Have a great weekend!

Fave romantic movie? Underworld. Yup. :)

Hmmm hard to say - i really really enjoy A Room With A View.
BUT, on a weird note, From Hell has it's pretty romantic scenes in between the prostitute butchering.

I have only seen two of the ones on your list!

Loved You've Got Mail.

My favorite romantic movies are When Harry Met Sally and Runaway Bride. I know there are a ton more, but those are the two that immediately come to my mind. If you don't count Disney romance. ;)

Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightley)and Ghost for more clear-cut romance, but I'm in love with the romances that take place in Braveheart and The Last of the Mohicans.

Fun post!I actually knew all your movies, too, except I can't seem to remember LadyHawke.

Nicole -- Who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? In anything?

Simon -- I'll have to look that up.

Sarah A. -- A Room with a View, yes. From Hell, hmmmmm.

She Writes -- I LOVED You've Got Mail. Thanks for the reminder.

Shelley -- Who doesn't love Disney romance?

Carolina -- I've got both versions of P & P and switch alternately on the weekends. LadyHawke was set in medieval France, the bishop of Aquila puts a spell on both of them, he's a wolf at night, she's a hawk by day, they can't get together until the total eclipse -- "Day without night, night without day."

I love You've Got Mail. One of my favorites! :)

Oh, The American President, good movie.
My favorite is probably the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen + Collin Firth = Fabulousness.

Anne, you know I'm all about Happily Ever After - typically hate sad endings. That said, The Notebook didn't make me sad. Without giving all away, it was a beautiful romance between two people all the way through their long lives. It made me cry, but still left me feeling good in the end :)

I LOVE Sense & Sensibility! But my all time favorite movie is Sabrina with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford.

Now, see, this is a really hard question for me since I don't typically gravitate toward romantic movies. But I do love 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' so very much. And I like 'The Notebook' too. :)

Elana -- I loved Sleepless in Seattle too! Love Tom Hanks.

Dominique -- Yeah, Colin Firth!!! He can put his shoes under my bed any day.

Tara -- I guess I'll have to give Notebook a try then.

Michelle -- Yes, I agree, Sabrina was spectacular, I also like the one with Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and Van Johnson.

Sarah Jayne -- I think my favorite all time Audrey movie was Roman Holiday with Cary Grant. The ending was sooooo.....

I'm with Tara-- Notting Hill. And Sleepless in Seattle but not as much as Notting Hill.

Anne Gallagher said...

Karen G -- I liked Notting Hill, I loved Hugh Grant's roommate in that, and I loved the ending. There was just something about Julia's performance that didn't seem quite right to me. I got it, I mean I did, but I don't know, she seemed so flat. But good movie none-the-less. Maybe I'll have to see it again to appreciate it more.

I'm not a huge romantic movie person but I'm partial to "Titanic," "Never Been Kissed" and "Benny and Joon."

Anne Gallagher said...

E.Elle -- I LOVED "never been kissed"! It's funny, my girlfriend told me to bring the Kleenex when I saw Titanic but I never cried. I don't know why. And I haven't seen "Benny and Joon" although I have read the book.
