To Cry or Not to Cry

Good morning. Thanks to all of you who did my unofficial poll yesterday about whether I should make Tony cry in my current work in progress. The stats are (as of 7:16 pm last night)

Out of 20 women and 3 men --

Two men said yes, make him cry.
One man said no, don't do it in front of her, make him cry later after he thinks about it.

Two and a half women said make him cry.
Ten women said don't make him cry at all.
One half a woman said make him cry later.
Four women said make his eyes water and lip quiver.

Three women said to do what I think is best as the writer.

So...I will have to take another gander at the scene and see what I can do. Some of the women think he should 'rage at the machine' however, they are stuck in a 1966 Ford Shelby in the rain, so I can't really have him beating up anything. Hmmm....

But thank you for all your opinions.

On to other news, I have some new followers I'd like to give a warm Piedmont Writer welcome to: Creepy Query Girl, Jayne, Al, Courtney Barr, Courtney Reese, Amy Jo, Paul C. Meghan and Stina. The buffet is in the dining room, help yourself to breakfast, coffee, there should be some chocolate somewhere. The pool is open but bathing suits are required.

I'd also like to say, I'm coming up to 100 'friends' and I am deliriously tickled pink. I never in a bazillion years ever thought I'd reach this milestone and as it's coming on the heels of my birthday, it is the best birthday month of my life thus far. I would like to say I'm going to have a wild, wacky and fantastically fun contest, but I can't. I have no extra money for fun books or prizes, believe me I really wish I did. I have the best contest ever in my head. But maybe, just maybe, I'll hold onto the contest idea and do it again when I have the moolah.

I'd also like to say thank you to each and every one of you for hanging out with me in the blogsphere, it's a delight and a blessing that I can call each and every one of you my friend. And even though we've never met, I feel a bond with you for we are all on this glorious quest together. Other people in the real world may think we're crazy for having this dream but that's what makes you all so special. We're there for each other through the good, the bad and the ugly.

I so wish I could have you all over for dinner, a nice cook-out with steaks and chicken, salads of all kinds, lemonade and iced tea, a fire in the fire-pit and the twinkle lights on in the trees. If I were only a millionaire...

I love that you welcome your new followers by name like that Anne, it's a nice touch.

Best of luck with your decision about the scene. Let us know what you decide.

Welcome to all the new bloggers indeed!!! How fantastic is it to almost be reaching 100!! What a feeling for sure!

Good luck with your current scene with Tony I'm sure you'll find the perfect solution!

As for dinner I can dream that I am joining you since neither of us are millionaires!

LOL. It really is subjective.

I love chocolate . . . even for breakfast. :D

Anne Gallagher said...

Matthew -- Thanks.

Jen -- Ah! The solution to Tony's dilemma. And maybe I'll have a birthday party.

Stina -- WHO doesn't love chocolate for breakfast?

Ahh, millionaire...if only.

I hit 100 over the weekend and won't be doing a contest either. Congrats on making it there (you will soon!) :)

Don't fret the lack of barbeque invite too much. Some of us aren't as interesting in real life. Me, for example.

Missed you!

Anne Gallagher said...

Tara -- Ahhh...if only.

Christi -- Of course you're interesting. You wouldn't be my friend if you weren't as crazy as I! I missed you too, where've you been?

Sarah Ahiers said...

ooh! I'm glad you posted the stats.
That's very interesting, especially the men stats

Summer Frey said...

Haha, actually Christi's right. I'd be over in the corner, trying to hide from people and playing with any furry 4-foot that happened to cross by, or laughing in that awkward, too-loud way at something somebody funny said.

I like my little dark writer's hole. Teehee.

I didn't get a chance to weigh in yesterday. I've seen my father cry twice: once at his dad's funeral, once at his dad-in-law's funeral.

I've seen my husband cry once: when we were still dating, and he was trying to break up with me (obviously didn't work)

I've never seen my brother cry, though I know he does. He's an angsty artistic soul, like me.

I really would think Tony's crying would be most impacted by how emotionally wrought he's feeling before she drops the bombshell. If he's already strung out and teetering, a little tearing would be believable.

Anyway, good luck figuring it out! And congratulations on 100 followers! I think I found you around 30-something, and I've been happy to see other people discovering your lovely genius since!

Sarah A. -- I had more men comment last night after I went to bed so I have to take those into consideration too. Tomorrow I'll have all the latest. It WAS interesting to see the men.

Summer -- Don't be silly, I can't wait to meet you, especially if you bring Handsome Dan the Dog Man, Boston Red Sox Fan. Hey, I made a rhyme. Yeah, I've only seen 'real' men cry at funerals and only two that broke up with me, but I think Tony's different. He's been dealing with a lot of stuff so I think he would break down.

Yay, Anne!!! So happy for you on your followers and on your upcoming birthday. This is going to be a terrific month for you :) Hope you figure out what to do with that scene. Just do whatever feels right!

Congrats on almost 100! Wouldn't it be nice if we could all hang out. I'd love to meet everyone!

I'm starting to really feel like I know Genna and Tony, too. Do you think they would come to a BBQ? I get the impression Tony is a carnivore...

It'd be so great to meet in person!! I hope one day, we do. (Maybe at your book signing!)

Good luck with Tony :)

Congrats on your rising following. I'm not at all surprised. How lovely it would be to meet you in person. Looking forward to seeing how it works out with Tony.

Congrats on your century mark! Glad to know the blog-o-sphere could help you out with your writing dilemma.

What interesting results for the crying!!! That's fascinating to me. :)

No worries about contests. People follow you because we like to read your posts, not because you give things out. You're lovely, and one day we will meet and eat lunch together. :)

Life is odd in what people respond to, isn't it, Lady Glamis. Talking about responding, Anne, I emailed you. Did you receive it? Roland

Courtney Reese said...

Ooh! Cookie! *munches off buffet* Delish!
Happy birthday!

Anne Gallagher said...

Julie -- Now if I could only get that partial request into a full...

Cynthia -- I'm going to need all the luck I can get.

Talli -- I'd love for all of us to hang out. And yes, Tony is a steak loving fanatic.

Lola -- Happy Happy Tuesday Dearest.

Nicole -- I so hope we get to meet some day, sooner than my book signing.

Carolina -- I think we should all make plans to get together at some neutral point in the country for a blog fest.

B. -- I know, I love the blogosphere.

Glamaliscious -- Thanks, and yes we will meet and have lunch.

Roland -- Yes I did, and I responded in kind.

Courtney -- So glad you like the buffet. Good isn't it.

Yay, this is a happy post. I'm excited for your almost-100 followers PLUS it's your birthday month! That is awesome.

Thanks for posting the stats on the Tony thing. I trust that whatever you end up doing will fit well with the story.

Wish we could have some kind of BBQ thing too. If we had one in person, you would so be the host. :) And it would rock.

Anne Gallagher said...

Shelley -- I SO wish we could have a BBQ thing. I don't know if I would be the hostess with the mostess, but it would rock. And roll.

DL Hammons said...

Sure...sure...she'd say she was inviting us to a barbeque...but when we got there we'd end up putting up another fence! :)

100 followers is just a start for you. Get used to the company!!

Anne Gallagher said...

DL -- ROTFLMAO! Oh my God you are too funny! And no, actually it wouldn't be the fence, it would be the 40 foot trench! I can't believe I'm at a hundred. Holy Crap Batman, what will 200 hundred be like?
