Something-Something

Well, now I know why I don't participate in blogfests. I spend way too much time reading blogs instead of working on REMEMBERING YOU. However, I did find some time and wrote a bunch more stuff, including this. This is the set-up for one of the minor plot lines that will be in the back of Genna's mind throughout the book. oooooohhhhhh I bet you're just dying to find out what it is arent' you? Sorry, can't tell you yet.

Anyway, I also wanted to say that this post will only be up for 2 days. I have gotten extremely paranoid of late and have taken down everything from previous posts from this particular work. So if you wanted to read it from the beginning again, I'm sorry. You can't. I hope you understand and I know most of you do. I want you to see what I'm working on, I want to share what I'm doing with my friends, I want to get the feedback, I just don't want it hanging in the blogosphere for all the world to see forever, you know.

****DISCLAIMER -- Ha! Fooled you, there isn't one this time. Nary a curse word.

And please remember this is a first draft, I'm sure there are tons of ugly in here.

I liked it, I didn't really have any set up before hand, but that certainly didn't raise any roadblocks in reading it.

I didn't notice any grammatical errors, and as to the big picture I can't say. Excerpts are kinda like looking at one tree instead of the trees blocking the view of the forest lol.

I would like to read more, but I understand about the paranoia thing (perfect paranoia is perfect awareness you know, lol).

Anyway, I would also like to let you know (not that you don't already) that I decided to give you the very same award you gave me:) So lets see it:)

Being on the web should make us all a bit paranoid!

I would like to know more about these folks.

Anne Gallagher said...

Ryan -- Well thanks. I must be perfectly paranoid then. As to awards, I've been hoarding them, and will post them all over the weekend.

Amy -- There's more coming in the next few months. Now I've got a grip on how it's going to go down, I'll be posting excerpts on Thursdays.

This was great, Anne! Your writing flowed beautifully and I loved the descriptions. This one was my favorite: Security signs were everywhere, dotting the green lawns like square white tulips. -- Fantastic!

I felt at home with these characters right away, and I would want to read more about them.

I think it's wise to only post excerpts for a temporary time period. When I start posting snippets from my actual WIP, I'll follow the same policy. For now, all my teasers have been from my short stories, none of which I'll try to publish.

Write on, sista!

I think you're perfectly within reason to take down excerpts. Why take the chance, you know?

I loved this line: "Security signs were everywhere, dotting the green lawns like square white tulips."

Nicole -- This work is soooo important to me right now, if anybody ever stole it I would have to get a whole posse of lawyers. And that is the one line -- square white tulips -- that I totally love myself.

Summer -- Thanks. See, that's where the literary comes in. I'm trying to be smaht.

Tara said...

Ha! I pulled out the same favorite line :) I enjoyed this, thanks for sharing. Glad I got here in time.

I get that paranoia, most of what I put on my blog are related to my WiP, but not actual scenes from it. I have thought about going back and removing the ones that are, though.

Nothing wrong with a little caution with your work on the web. I really like this snippet between Genna and her grandmother. You can really see your love for this story coming through. :)

i'm really paranoid too, which is why i don't post bits from my WIP and don't post from anything that i plan to try and get published at some point.
It's good to know i'm not the only one looking over my shoulder

Anne Gallagher said...

Tara -- Thanks. It's my new nightmare that someone will steal it. This is the one thing I've written that I am actually really crazy about.

Sarah Jayne -- Thank you so much for that, the love I have for this book. I really do love it. I almost hate to finish it.

Anne Gallagher said...

Sarah A. -- No I think we all have to be conscious of Big Brother, or a plagirist. It's scary, but a little paranoia is good I think.

This is great! Every time I read something you've written in Genna's world, I get that much closer to them. Maybe because it's a story involving family? (Which I love.) It's like I'm being welcomed in to be part of them. I really, really like it!

Anne Gallagher said...

Thanks Shelley -- wait til I make you cry. We'll see how much you like it then. But that won't be for another little while yet.

Thanks for the great installment, Anne. It made me want to take Genna's journey to Nyatt Point and get good and involved in the story. Especially nice tone and setting. I've been thinking of taking my story segments down as well, yet a part of me can't really believe anyone would want to use them.

Anne Gallagher said...

Roxy -- Thanks. I can't believe someone would do it, but I also couldn't believe other people would do those things that they did to me such a long time ago, so I'm trying to make sure the past doesn't repeat the present. It's more my own paranoia than anything else. Unfortunately I just don't have a strong thresh hold for trust anymore.

Great snippet. :) Thanks for sharing.

Anne Gallagher said...

Elana -- You're welcome.

I loved the description - very visual. I could see everything perfectly within my mind's eye!

Totally understand the paranoia. You just never know these days! Still, I want more!

Anne Gallagher said...

Talli -- Oh good, I'm glad that visual got captured. I was hoping but wasn't sure. More is coming in dribs and drabs over the next few weeks, or however long it takes me to write it.

Lola Sharp said...

Hey Anne, I likey.
I too love the same sign/tulip line that Tara and Nicole mentioned.

Thanks for sharing a little more of her story.:o)

Love,
Lola

Good stuff, Anne.

As for paranoia, I had it for a while, which is why I post only my little shorts that I never got anywhere with. IF someday I get to publish them somehow, they'll swiftly disappear from my blog. :-)

Anne Gallagher said...

Lola -- You're welcome. I hope I can get to the good stuff soon.

Christi -- Thanks. I hear ya! I hope you're feeling a little better than the last few days.

Anne: This is gorgeous writing. It all flows well and like everyone else, I have to say I admire the way you work description into the passages and the way you point to specific details: "The back was burgeoning with flowers and small trees, birdhouses and feeders, and a small fountain in the middle of the old brick courtyard surrounded by white wrought iron patio furniture." Thanks for sharing!

Like Ryan, I didn't have a set-up, but I still got it. And I totally get your paranoia! it makes sense to keep your stuff off the Internet, and to not share too much. Just remember, there are webshots out there of things that have been placed on before they were taken down, so don't put your WHOLE book on here!

But, in the meantime, thank you for sharing your writing. You are quite good.

P.S. Met with a nutritionist today and learned a bunch of great stuff. A lot of it mimicked (sp?) what you told me, but it was good to have a go-to professional right here in my area.

Just Wonderful. Thank you for sharing!!

Anne Gallagher said...

Scott -- Thanks so much for stopping by and reading this. I appreciate your words because I know what kind of a writer YOU are. I'm glad you liked it.

Michele -- No, never would I put a whole book out. And I try and limit my excerpts to a continuing frame but not so much that anyone could really follow the plot. And Thanks.
I'm glad the nutritionist worked out for you. I'm sure she/he had a lot more info than I.

Anne Gallagher said...

Hey Hannah -- Thank you very much. And you're welcome, it was my pleasure.

DL Hammons said...

That really flowed fluidly. I was completely engaged and dialed in. Thanks for the lookee-see. :)

Anne Gallagher said...

DL -- Anytime, glad you liked it.

I'm sorry I missed this. This is why I opened my other private blog, by the way. I'm paranoid, too.
