Simon's Love Scene/Blogfest

Today's regularly scheduled post is being pre-empted for something unusual. I am participating in Simon Larter's Love Scene/Blogfest. I believe there was a throw down of sorts on a Tweet one night and Simon came up short. Now, the rules are simple, a love scene that's PG but also MG. Which I'm going to pretend I'm stupid and don't know what MG means. After reading a few blogs this morning I'm also stupid and don't know what a love scene is either. Do kids in Middle Grade really have sex, or think about sex, or want sex? I must be REALLY old now. Okay here goes...

Due to the paranoia of the author, this excerpt has been removed. Sorry.

Suh-weet. You gave us more Genna and Tony and their first kiss. Didn't go too well, did it? :) But I love that last line.

Sarah Jayne -- Thanks, I liked that line too. Yeah, I'm totally into G & T these days, I'm gonna sneak them in whenver I can.

Ooh, sassy! I love it!

"I knew I was playing with fire"! Great line!

You intro nailed why I didn't participate. Middle school kids being intimate is something I can only picture in an abusive situation or in cases where kids have been "switched on" sexually far too young due to an unhealthy home environment. I had an idea for the fest along those lines, then realized it really doesn't fit my blog platform.

Some good ol' romance seemed a perfectly fine way to go.

Oh, love that last line! Ha!! What a bad boy. VERRRRY nice ;) Very realistic characters. And yes, it's pretty much impossible to write an MG sex scene. I think the only way you could really do it is if the tween characters are not participating in the act, but perhaps listening in or something like that, but really, I don't think MG goes far beyond snogging. But MG madness aside, lovely scene! You developed it beautifully. "...Genna in public, and Rosa after you kiss me." ha!! Well done.

Summer -- Thanks. It is a little bit isn't it?

Laurel -- Yeah, I had trouble with the whole MG concept too, which is why I just threw this out there. I didn't have my first kiss until I was 15, so there was no way I could even do anything with 8-12 yr.olds.

Carolina -- Yes, Tony is a bad boy, but back in 1976 they were all bad. Thanks, "Genna in public, Rosa after you kiss me" I liked that a lot too.

Do kids in MG really think about sex, or want sex? Yes. Some kids, anyway. That girl in 8th grade that had a "reputation" did, I'm pretty sure.

No worries on the no booty thing, good lady. I think it's a perfectly fine scene, even if they didn't go farther than smooching. Love the last line. :)

I'm with the others -- I love that last line. But I also love how I'm getting to know Genna more. This scene was so cute!

haha, playing with fire...

Love the last line, but I also like 'craned her neck like a contortionist'.

Great scene!

Thanks you guys, I guess it's unanimous then, playing with fire is a hit.

Simon -- I wouldn't know how to write sex anyway, it's been so long I barely remember how to do it myself.

Shelley -- Yeah, Genna's been on my shoulder for a few weeks now, she's got this thing about being all over the blog. Some day maybe I'll get my own life back.

Livia -- Hey thanks for joining the club!

Talli -- Believe it or not that was a last minute add-on this morning. That's what happens when the clocks change. I was up at 4:30. I don't know why.

"It took almost forty-five minutes of slow maneuvering but Genna finally managed to stand by herself along the same wall as Tony."
OMG I have so done that!

Anne Gallagher said...

Elaine -- Thanks for noticing. Yeah, I've done it too, although with not the same results.

LOVE that last line!

This is great! I am glad that you played the rebel cause and kept it for real PG just like me! I know that MG kids might think about it and actually do it, but it's a bit ooogie to me.

I loved your writing and the last line was priceless. :)

Very fun, and I loved the spice! You have some great dialogue. For example, “You can call me Genna in public, and Rosa after you kiss me.”

and

“Hey, it’s no big deal Rosa. I knew I was playing with fire when I brought you out here.”

Way to go!

Anne Gallagher said...

Lola -- Thanks!

Tiffany -- I don't know if I played the rebel or just didn't follow the directions, but I am repulsed that MG kids are thinking about sex. I know I wouldn't write it.

Portia -- Thanks, I love my dialogue, someone said it was snarky. I write the way I talk I guess.

Very enjoyable scene. I really like the recognition that Tony is a bad boy and that's why Genna wants to get to know him.

And snarky it is. Well done.

Anne Gallagher said...

Thank you very much LK Gardner-Griffie. I appreciate a good bit of snark.

Morale of the story...kiss the girl who asks for it and get burned!! :)

It was great!

VR Barkowski said...

Playing with fire is most definitely a hit. Great dialogue throughout. Very real. What is the appeal of bad boys, anyway?

Very well done!

Michelle D. Argyle said...

Awww, that's actually really cute! In a bad-boy kind of way. :)

Anne Gallagher said...

DL -- Fun-nee, very Fun-nee. I'm glad you liked it.

VR -- Thank you. I guess I better come up with some other great lines for the rest of this then.

Glam -- Thanks. I don't think Tony's all that, but we'll see.

Sara {Rhapsody and Chaos} said...

"I’d stay away from Tony if I were you Genna, he’s got a reputation.”

Which only made Genna want to meet him more.

Brilliant!! That is so spot on. It reminds me of the boy I dated my freshman year of high school. Someone warned me to stay away from him and it made him all that more tempting =) (We dated on and off for four years, so I guess it was an ok move on my part.)

Anne Gallagher said...

Sara -- Who doesn't love a bad boy??? God knows I've had my share.

The playing with fire bit was cute, I adored it! Very spunky, sassy, just overall good. I'm gald I got to it, I only just posted late last night and didn't have any time to look through everyone elses stuff but I'm so glad I got here, this was great!

Anne Gallagher said...

Thanks Hayley, That's a nice compliment.
