Hiatus

Good Morning Gentle Readers, I hope where ever you are, it's a beautiful day. I have two contests to tell you about:

Nicole at One Significant Moment in Time is having a contest for reaching 100 friends/followers. She has great prizes so go see what's it all about.

And the lovely Sarah Jayne is having a contest for reaching 50, (well, actually she has 55 now) at Writing in the Wilderness, so go check that one out too...

As most of you know, I mentioned I will be going on hiatus for a little while, I want to really take another look at the MS. that is currently out on submission. And it's a good thing too. Another of the partials came back rejected. They said the "writing was fine" however the premise was "not unique enough to compete in the market."

To say I am not completely devastated would be an understatement for I thought for sure this agency would have asked for a full. I will be drowning myself in chocolate for the next few days, and then, once I've cleaned up all the tissues, I will come out swinging for the fences. Hey, baseball season is right around the corner -- Go Red Sox.

I may not be posting but I will be keeping up with all my lovely friends and cheering you on from the cheap seats. For those of you with queries out, go you! For all the rest, keep on writing. And make it good!! I'll talk to you soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about the rejection and I'm going to miss you until you come back. But enjoy your hiatus and good luck with the revisions and writing. :)

Yay for hiatuses? Or is that hiatii? Huh. Dunno.

Anyway, keep writing, keep revising, keep your head up, and keep moving forward, good lady. You'll get there. :)

Sarah Jayne -- Thanks.

Simon -- I just need a map.

I'm sorry about the rejection. Drown in chocolate and revise away :)

I'll miss you around here - you were my first bloggy friend :) Hurry back.

We'll miss you! Keep your chin up, you've done more than a lot of other writers just by submitting. Remember that. It takes courage and a little insanity. :0)

Best wishes
Kristi

Tara -- Thanks. I'll be back soon.

Kristi -- I have the insanity, that's not the problem. Thanks.

Happy Hiatus, Anne! Once the chocolate is eaten and the tissues are tossed out, remember this: The publishing world is full of stories of excellent novels that were turned down multiple times before someone took a chance on them...and they went on to win international acclaim. Dreams do come true!!

Thanks for promoting my contest!

Enjoy your time away, but come back soon!
((hugs)) Nicole

Aww Anne... I'll miss you, but I'm so happy that you'll be productive. I'm sure it will feel great to get so much writing done. I'm considering doing the same sometime this spring.

I'm sorry to hear about your rejection, but I still have so much hope for you. Best of luck, and enjoy your time off!

P.S. I gave you an award on my blog -- consider it a going away present.

boo on the rejection. BUT isn't it great that they gave you some info on why they passed? Better than just a form anyway because it means they liked it and you enough to communicate.
And don't worry, the blues will pass, they always do.
*hugs*

Sorry about the partial, Anne. Keep at it. There are lots of agencies out there. Have a happy, productive hiatus. We'll miss you. (Don't stay way too long, Writer Lady.)

I left a little comment on my blog regarding your previous comment. Is that sufficiently confusing? I'm confused anyway.

Nicole -- Thanks, I know, it's just hard to deal with right now (there's also a lot going on at home that is kind of shaking my bones.) I'll get through it in no time. No worries.

Shelley -- I saw that and got it and I appreciate it. See, I told you I would be checking up on everyone.

Sarah A -- Thanks so much, and you're right, they did write something so that's better than nothing. Yes, the blue's pass, usually into purple. It won't be long.

Roxy -- Believe me, I won't be away any longer than absolutely necessary. I have no one to talk to. Although the cat tries.

I am always glad to take a break myself and revive my writing :). Enjoy and see you soon!

I'm so sorry about the rejection, Anne. But sometimes you just need to take a step back from one thing to get reconnected with something else. I'll be thinking of you and looking forward to your return. :o) <3

Anne Gallagher said...

Roxy -- Yes, I did stop by and loved what you said in return. Thank you so much.

Amy -- I'm finding that's true, much as I hate to admit it. I'd much rather be at the beach doing it though.

E.Elle -- Thanks, I do need to step back, waaayyyy back. I need a couple days to regroup from this tragedy (told you I was a Drama Queen) then I'll get right back on the keyboard.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind thoughts and words. It really means a lot to me. I didn't want to do this right now, I really didn't but there's way too much crap going on in my life at the moment and the rejection was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'll only be gone for a week or two (I hope) and then when I come back, we'll see if the Sox can make another run. This is the Year of the Tiger, anything's possible, right?

I'm sorry about the rejection. The ones on partials and fulls always send me for the chocolate too. But remember it only takes one agent to fall in love with your story. Good look during your hiatus.

Lola Sharp said...

I'm so sorry about all thetas going on, plus the rejection of one of your partials.
Please know that I have many published writer friends that received plenty of rejections, even to their fuels. So take heart. You want to be in the hands of an agent that passionately LOVES your work and gets you, and fights for your book.
Spring is on its way.

Lola Sharp said...

Oh man, I apologize for the typos. Believe it or not, it isn't my fault. My mac automatically "fixes" and tweaks words when I use slang or something it doesn't recognize. It changed "full's" into fuel.
As for the first error, thetas? I'm pretty sure I wrote 'that is'?
Sorry.

There is a saying, 'All good things come to those who wait'. Personally, I'd like to give him/her a swift kick in the shins because waiting is excruciating!

However, I'm sure there's an agent just around the corner for you. It just takes one person. Just one. Hang in there. You and I are in the same boat :)

Anne Gallagher said...

Roni -- I know, I have to keep remembering that. I'm glad I have friends like you to keep smacking me upside the head. Truly.

Lola -- No worries about Maxine, I can read through typo's. And thanks, you're absolutely right about the agent who loves me (isn't that a song). Hopefully it won't be long now.

Wendy -- Waiting IS excrutiating. I hate hate hate it. I didn't know you were querying too. Oh congratulations/good luck.

Michelle D. Argyle said...

No need to fear. Rejection is part of the game. And look how much support you have here in the comments. You are do something right, truly!

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

Oh, hon, that's so tough. Dive into the chocolates, I say. It doesn't seem to matter how normal it is in this business or how much you set yourself up to expect rejection, it still stings a bit. But you know that another agent may very well fall in love with it. Don't let this shake you. Just keep writing, and have faith in yourself and your abilities. Hang in there, dear.

Anne Gallagher said...

Glam -- yeah, I know. But It still hurts just the same.

Carolina -- Someone else said that too, the agent has to fall in love with it, so I'm just waiting now. I've found a few things to keep me busy so it's all good. Thanks for the pep.

Elana Johnson said...

Oh, sorry on the rejection. Good luck with your revisions and have fun on your time away. :)

Anne Gallagher said...

Elana -- Thanks. I don't know if fun is the right word, perhaps, don't break the keyboard.
