The Wedding

I was lucky enough this morning when I arose, to turn on the telly and found the beginning of the wedding of Katherine and William. I waited in breathless anticipation for her to emerge from the hotel and see what she wore. And I wasn't disappointed.

She was lovely. Is lovely. Stunning really, whey you think now, she's a Princess. I couldn't be happier for the both of them. More of a fairy tale than Charles and Diana I think, because Kate is a modern woman. She's gone through so much with Will already, breaking up, getting back together, the papparazzi, living together, and hey, meeting the Queen. That could really do a lesser woman in, I think.

As a writer of romance, and growing up with the Disney Princess model, I am over the moon, that a simple common girl, finally gets to marry the Prince of her dreams. Isn't that what we all want on our wedding day? Even though I've never been married, I'd still like to feel like a Princess if I ever did marry. I don't think that feeling ever goes away, no matter how old (or cynical) you are.

I admit, I cried. I always cry at weddings. Even if they are on the telly. I even cried when they sang God Save the Queen. I cried when they kissed on the balconey. And yay! They kissed twice.

For all his royal bearing, I think William was just the cutest thing on the balconey. I could see in his face how much he loves Kate. And Kate, although overwhelmed (I mean, who wouldn't be, she's a Princess now) she adores Will.

I wish them every happiness in the world. I hope they live a full and loving life filled with everything their hearts desire.

God save the Queen. God save William and Katherine.

Did anyone else watch? Did anyone else cry?

I didn't cry, but I do think the bride was absolutely lovely, and the groom charming. I believe their marriage stands a much better chance than Charles & Di's.

My wife Mary cried. I did too, but not at the wedding. I was watching the NFL draft analysis and was so happy my Colts got a great pick...

But, Mary had the same reaction(s) as you did.

Linda -- Oh, let's hope so. I'd hate to think 10 years from now we'll be watching another royal divorce. Although, I really really truly believe from the bottom of my heart, this marriage will stand the test of time.

Les -- Yay, Mary! I'm so glad I'm not the only gushy romantic here. And, well, congrats to you Les, for the Colts pick. I hope you'll enjoy many happy years together.

nah, i slept in. But i plan on watching some recaps. And yeah, i typically tear up at weddings

I'm with Sarah--I hope to catch the recaps later today. I tear up at just about anything--sweet songs on the radio, TV commercials, a nice photo in a magazine. My daughter (who's 8) now mocks me mercilessly about it. I tell her it's better to have a soft-hearted mommy than a hard-hearted one!

I got up and watched. Kate was absolutely beautiful. The minute I saw her dress I thought of Princess Grace of Monaco's dress. Very elegant.

And I loved how you could tell from the Prince's body language that he was dying to turn around and see her walking down the aisle (his brother whispered to him with a grin, cute). Then, I could read his lips when he told her she looked beautiful. That got me right there.

Sarah -- I forgot all about it until I turned on the tv. Will watch it all again tonight as well.

Laurel -- Yeah, I cry at everything too. I'm just a big sap.

Rula -- Oh, I know, I loved watching Will. And Harry was just too funny. I missed the part when he told her she looked beautiful. Awww... I'll definitely watch everything later on.

Oh I loved! It was beautiful! I even got to work and turned on the live stream so I could continue to enjoy. Beautiful wasn't it? I cried but pulled it back together when my husband came in. I tell him it's the writer in me that makes me emotional but I'm sure it's just being a girl... and being a big sap!

Her dress is so Gracy Kelly. I love it!

I was at work. Hopefully my wife didn't watch. Might make her wonder why she choose me.

I'm not big on weddings. Never attended one that didn't end in divorce - which could explain why I'm such a romantic as well as why I'm rarely invited to weddings anymore. LOL!

Kate and Will are an extraordinary couple. I hope the happiness they feel today lasts throughout the rest of their lives. Marriage is a leap of faith, it's nice to have someone's hand to hold when you land.

Oh yes, I couldn't stop crying. At the romance of it, the Englishness of it, the beautiful hymns, the history... My eyes are red.

She was STUNNING. Epitomy of class :) Loved it.

I do hope this marriage lasts. England needs a fairy tale story now. If the press would just leave them alone . .

I'm sure I'll see the recaps when I get home tonight.

I only caught parts of the wedding on CNN this morning, but she truly looked like a princess. And it was neat to see so many Brits partying in the streets.

Really impressive wedding. The dress wasn't overwhelming & they seem so right for each other. I was laughing when they kissed twice on the balcony! :)

I've still not seen a good shot of the dress---but I'll be all over it tonight. My sister was there! Among the throngs outside, of course, and at the balcony she and her husband's view of the "Kiss" was blocked, so they took a picture of themselves kissing instead. Awwww...

Love this post, Anne. I cried when they kissed on the balcony. I wish the bride and groom every happiness.

Nope, didn't watch. Just not all that interested. (Confession...I do remember as a little girl wondering if I could marry Prince Charles.)

I cried from beginning till end. I tend to do so at weddings, whether I know the couple, their story, and even regardless of the type of wedding. There is just something beautiful about people being so in love that they want to share it with the world that touches me, I suppose.

And the dress. Grace Kelly would have been proud :)

I watched. I cried...for many reasons...not the least of which is that my husband and I had our first date the day William's parents were married. To watch their grown son marrying such a beautiful woman made me realize how much time has passed. Good time, but time nonetheless. I loved it though, and watched it later on reruns too!

I cried! It was wonderful and I think Kate was breathtakingly beautiful. When she was riding through London with William in the carriage, I couldn't get over how flawless she looked. Regal, but approachable. Modern, but traditional. I wish them much happiness!

I thought it was so sweet. I wish them all good things!

Yes, yes, and yes!!!! I used up about 15 hours of my DVR, :) Typically, I hate weddings, but I loved this one. I do hope they make it. And yay for two kisses!!!

Let's hope Kate's look will usher in more understated elegance. We need more elegance, less sluttitude. Nothing against sluts, but there are so MANY of them.

I think it was lovely of the Brits to give us some pomp, circumstance and glamo(u)r to focus on instead of the fact our world seems to be blowing itself apart, both weather and politics-wise.

Jen -- You should have seen how fast I drove Monster Child to school, just so I could get back home.

Michele -- LOVED the dress!

Alex -- She chose you because she loves you. That's all there is to it. Unless of course she digs that Ninja thing.

VR -- Hey, you're just about as big a cynic as I am when it comes to marriage. However, I think, I hope this one will work out. They really do seem like a fairy tale couple.

Deniz -- The Elnglishness of it. I think that describes it. Only they can pull off something like that.

Annah -- Stunning, absolutely. Thanks for stopping by.

Donna -- I hope they get to live a life as close to normal as possible. They will be in the wilds of Wales, so that might help.

Susan -- She did look like a princess. Very much in love too. Very sweet.

Lisa -- Oh the kiss on the balconey. Be still my heart. That was just so sweet. Will is just so cute.

Anne Gallagher said...

Nicki -- AWWWW, how totally sweet!

Roxy -- Thanks. That balconey was my favorite part of the whole wedding I think.

Bish -- I never wanted to marry Charles, but I did have a thing for Andrew once.

Cruella -- Thanks for stopping by. OH, the DRESS! Loved that dress. Wish I could wear it for just 5 minutes.

Liza -- Chuck and Di was a long time ago. Yikes! But so much has happened in between. And how sweet to have a first date on a famous wedding day. It's destiny.

Nicole -- In the carriage I though she looked kind of relieved. Satisfied and happy. I hope they last.

Betty -- Very sweet.

Ed -- Long time. Good to see you again. I hope you are just as well. For all my curmudgeonly ways, I'm just a sappy romantic at heart.

Becky -- 15 hours!! I watched in the morning, then again all night recaps. Just loved that kiss!

Anne -- I think Kate will do a lot for the country. Not only as Will's bride, but as a woman of the international world. Just like Diana.

Portia said...

I caught some pictures later. I was struck by how much he looks like Diana. Such a lovely couple!

Anne Gallagher said...

Portia -- He does look like Diana. And Harry looks like her ex-boyfriend. Scarily so.
