Monday Update

Good morning everyone. First, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who commented on my WRITE THE NEXT LINE Blogfest hosted by Christine Danek. It was such a great experience to write someone who was as creepy as a Stephen King character. Stretching my wings, as it were.

Anyway, I've been lurking around the blogosphere, trying to keep up because I'm just a news-bag that way. I don't read or comment everyday but I've been around.

I found these two posts which I think you should go look at pronto.

Samuel Park has given us a list of publishers that accept unsolicited ms. And some of them are very surprising. If you're having no luck finding an agent, perhaps you could try one of these publishers. Go take a look, you won't be sorry because I learned a LOT just by reading about them.

And if you don't know about Elizabeth Spann Craig and her Twitterific Sunday posts, OMG, you must go now. She has also compiled the lists into a writer's database where you can find all her tweets. It's a fantastic resource and I know you won't be disappointed. She's got EVERYTHING there.

And Monster Child has a loose tooth. Her first. She's so excited. I'm afraid I can't even look at it. And she insists on showing it to me every chance she gets. Now THAT creeps me out. Funny, I can look at blood and gore, I can deal with poop of all kinds, vomit doesn't faze me. Show me a loose wiggly tooth and I get sceeved out so bad with the oogies I run away and hide. Which she thinks is funnier than all get-out. She chases me around the house. Do you see now why I call her Monster?

So, that's all. I'm kind of digging this hiatus and really want to keep off the blogs for another few weeks. What I'd really like to do is get the first draft for Ellis & Violet finished before I come back. But you know me. I have so much to say I'm sure I'll be back long before then.

Tell me, what have you been doing? Do you miss me yet?

Read both Samuel's and Elizabeth's posts.
And I see you've remembered she's Monster Child not Baby anymore.

At 6 years old, she was still in her baby car seat until I looked back one day and found her bum sticking off the end of the chair. Bad mommy! I hate to admit she's growing up and there's not a thing I can do about it.

Great job on the blogfest. Thanks for posting an excellent piece.
A loose tooth already? When does that start? My gal may be close. yikes. I'm not looking forward to that.
Thanks for the links. I will check them out.
Thanks.

I've been plotting. Bleh. But tomorrow I get to start writing. :)

LOL! My hubs is exactly the same way about loose teeth, and the kiddos used to take full advantage of it.

i'm with you regarding the tooth thing. *shudder*

LOL about loose teeth! I'm the same way and my kids think it's hilarious.

Christine -- The child just turned 6 in Dec. so I guess that's when teeth start popping out. I really don't know.

Jennifer -- I read about your 3 month challenge. I'm trying to get my own first draft down by March 1. We'll see.

Linda -- Oh, thank God I'm not the only one. Being a mom, I thought I could handle anything but not this.

Sarah & Rula -- Oh, I'm so glad it's not just me!!!

My daughters first grade teacher hated loose teeth...given they were popping out all around her that was a pretty funny issue, I recall.

Huh, that loose tooth thing would not bother me at all. But vomit...no, thank you!

The tooth thing gives me the heebie-jeebies!
...and thanks for the links!

I laughed out loud at the thought of her chasing you around, baring her tooth at you, :P

Great to spread the word about Samuel and Elizabeth's too must-bookmark posts. Really important stuff.

Maybe we missed you, but I'm not going to guilt trip you. Enjoy the writing time!

Did I just write "too" for "two"? I did. Note to self: this is why we proofread.

It's good to take a break from our routines. I haven't been able to sit properly in a chair for a while because of my back, and it's been nice to rest and collect my thoughts.

Count me in the "shuddering at the loose tooth" camp. Funny it never bothered me when I was five. :)

We miss you but certainly understand the need to take time away to write.

Eww. Loose teeth make me cringe as well. Thanks for the post links, Anne. I'm going over now. Have a great hiatus.

Of course we miss you, silly.

Although I agree a hiatus, every now and again, is a good thing. I had one during the summer and when I finally came back I felt refreshed and ready to blog.

Publishers accepting unsolicited manuscripts. What is going on with this industry?!

I've missed you. I was happy to see your recent comment on my blog.

Today is a snow day so I was going to send out a few more queries. Thank you for the link to the publishers. I'll check it out.

My new plan is to write for 15-minutes a day for the month of February. So far, so good.

I'm glad to see Samuel's name here. I've been following him from Day 1 and his writing is excellent! A haitus is definitely necessary from blogging to get work done from time to time. Have a great week!

I agree, there is something about a loose and bloody tooth. Good luck on that first draft! Writing comes first!

Always miss your posts. Me? I've been editing mostly. I agree about loose teeth. With three grandkids losing them at once, it's been hard to avoid them.

Oh, no! The great grow-up is about to begin; from this point time does more than fly. My Minnow was like-six last week, but then the years disappeared. Some monster-being took the two ends of my time-string and looped out the bit in the middle.
I've been editing - and have just started Querying ENCOUNTERS :)

My kids are all losing teeth right now. My 11 yo showed me his and I had no idea what it was. Guess I was paying more attention to my writing than to what he was saying. ;)

At least there was no blood on it. :)

Thanks for the links, Anne! I will check them out next. I remember once my darling teenager swallowed her first loose tooth. We had to write the tooth fairy a note and explain all this then we put the note under her pillow. Tooth Fairy understood :-)

Hi Anne,

Glad you're enjoying your time off from blogging. Thanks for stopping by to provide a critique for the Anon Crit. It means so much to me (and the writers) to have your support. =)

Things are the same here. Work, work, work. I need a vacation!

Enjoy your time off
