Somewhere Beyond the Sea

Good Morning. Remember that old Bobby Darrin tune?

Somewhere beyond the sea,
somewhere waiting for me,
my lover stands on golden sands,
and watches the ships go sailing.

Okay, for those of you who have no clue, well, let's just say, it's an oldie but goodie. Like me.

This song has haunted me, haunted me I tell you, for years. This is my theme song. If a person could have such a thing, this would be mine.

Because it's Monday, and I'm talking about love today, this is my theme song for love. Somehow, I've gotten it stuck in my head, that my One and Only, Soul Mate, Other Half, Significant Other, is on a distant shore somewhere, waiting for me. Why he hasn't found me yet, I haven't a clue. I mean, am I supposed to look for him? Are we supposed to meet half-way? Don't know.

And literally, I've had this song in my head for decades. DEC-ADES people. I keep telling my mother I want to go to Ireland. She thinks it's so I can find the family tree and all that, but really, it's so I can cruise the beaches, or boat yards, and see if there's a sweet red-headed Irishman waiting for me. Yeah, I know, I am a little nuts.

Why I think he's on a distant shore is beyond me. I mean, really, he could be in Florida, or Oregon, maybe even Texas. I think it's the accent. Irish, Scottish, British. That's why I watch so much BBC telly.

Okay, enough soul baring for one day.

Tell me -- Do you have a theme song for love? Not "our song" or your wedding song, but a song that you feel best describes how you feel about love?

Nope. I really don't. I had a hard enough time finding our wedding song. My husband actually picked it. It was short and sounded good, so I said yet. ;)

Very romantic. I can't think of just one song, although Dan Fogelberg (sp?) has nice ones. It'd probably end up being a country song for me.

I love that song! Which is the only reason I'm forgiving you for planting that earworm in my head. ;)

If I have a musical theme, I suppose it's Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini -- it just moves me.

Stina -- Short and sweet is always good for a wedding song.

Rula -- Dan Fogleburg is an excellent choice.

Linda -- Sorry. And yes, Rachmanioff's Rhapsody is lovely.

That's hard to say because there are so many. Great song though. Yes, I know what it is. You would be surprised at my music collection. :)
Have a great day!

Sade's Kiss of Life... It's exactly how I felt when I saw, and fell in love with "him". And I say...go on your journey, find what's been in your heart for DEC-ADES.

There's a song by Martina McBride called Blessed. In one of the verses she talks about having that connection or intuition with her husband and how much she loves him. That just really speaks love to me.

As long as he's not somewhere watching bad TV and eating Doritos, waiting for a beer....

Don't laugh, but I love "Through the Eyes of Love" from Ice Castles.

I love this song. I also love the Robbie Williams version at the end of Finding Nemo. You have to Youtube it--he does a great job with it!

Christine -- My music collection is wide and varied as well.

Em -- No journey this year. And if truth be told, I wish he would find me. I'm sick of doing most of the work in relationships.

Jennifer -- OH, I love that song.

Betty -- No, that was the last one. How did you know. I like that song too.

Lydia -- I wish I could get You-tube. I love Robbie Williams. I'll have to look for it somewhere else.

One piece of music that I really love is "Morning Mood" the opening of Edward Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite. It's seems to turn up at special moments in my life and fills me with light, makes me feel good.

Sarah's comment made me laugh!

And had to look it up, but here's a snippet of a song that says love to me:
"It's all your love
That keeps my dreams alive
And girl I can't thank you enough
For all your love
Tell me child will you love me when I grow old
Will your tender touch be the same
'Cause your heart means to me a world of gold
And without you baby I'd be lost and cold
You made me feel like a superman
I could take on the whole world with just one hand"

Bish -- How awesome that it turns up spontaneously. I would love that.

Sarah -- Been there done that in Nevada. Although they don't have the ocean in NV. But it's too cold and too dark up there for me.

Talli -- GO YOU GIRL!!!

Patti -- I know how you feel.

Alex -- Oh how sweet. You are a true romantic. Even if you don't want to admit it.

Yes, go looking for him. It's harder for the man of our dreams to find us if we're sitting in our house.

I have a cold right now so I can't think of a song properly right now. I'd mix "A Message" and "Kingdom Come" by Coldplay.

This is fascinating, Anne. Thanks for opening up like that. Would you be able to work a long distance relationship? It's something I never want to get into again if I can help it. I don't think I have a theme song for love, but I'll try and pay attention this week to the songs that run through my head.

It's a wonderful song--always have loved it. Nice flow, good to skate to!

Great topic, but unfortunately, I can't come up with any one song that defines how I feel about love. "Moonlight Sonata" probably comes the closest.

Anne Gallagher said...

Theresa -- Had to laugh at that one. Can't find him at home. Love Coldplay. Yeah baby!

Davin -- I've had three long distance relationships and I actually enjoyed them more BECAUSE of the distance. Both of us had separate careers we couldn't leave at the time, and week long holidays were the best of both worlds. And this was before email so the telephone bills were astronomical at the time, but it was fun.

Lisa -- Never thought of it as a skating song, but I can see it.

Susan -- Another great tune!

Well, I LOVE the BBC telly, too, and dream of someone "over there." Or in Ireland. Go where your dreams/heart take you!

Southern Cross, by Crosby and Stills is a sad song about lost love...but there is a phrase that always resonates with me: "And my love is an anchor tied to you...tied with a silver chain."

I love that Bobby Darin song.

My favorite love song is "By Your Side" by Sade. It's about bringing out the best in each other, and sticking together through everything, and seeing the other person as he or she really is. I love that song.
