I Was Told

Just came up for air with this amusing anecdote --

The other day I was looking at an old blog post with Monster Baby standing behind my shoulder. She saw the word 'Monster' and immediately asked,

"Why are you writing about Monster's Inc.?"

I said, "I'm not. I'm writing about you. See, there's the word 'baby' as in Monster Baby."

Can I say she looked a bit peeved when she said in an academy award performance,

"Mommy, I am six years old now. I am not a baby anymore. I am a child. So you can call me your Monster Child instead of your Monster Baby."

Okay then.

I've heard some unbelievable, hilarious things from my kids over the years, but sadly I am terrible about writing such things down so I can remember them.

Damyanti -- Some days I can't believe what comes out of her mouth.

Ted -- Which is why I blog so I can share it. And also so it will be written down somewhere for posterity instead of on a napkin.

Oh my gosh Anne this made my day! I love it when a 'baby' grows up and wants to be called a child. Monster child has a nice ring to it!!

Happy Friday!

Jen -- The problem is I really don't want her to grow up. She's only 6 but will always be my "baby". I'm such a mushy Mommy.

I love this. It sounds like my daughter.
Have a great weekend!

ROFL! That sounds like my 6 yo, too. And she's not a little girl. She's a big girl, so there! ;)

Mine will always be my baby, too. I don't want her to grow up either.

That is so cool that she's OK being called Monster Child. My mom affectionately called me The Rotten Kid, so I can relate.

She sounds so much like my first grader ... I LOVE the things that come out of their mouths sometimes ;)

So cute. I really miss being around kids, they say the most wondrous things.

BTW: Stay a mushy Mommy. I had one of those, they're the best kind. :)

Love it! My 3 year old tells me he's not my baby anymore, too. I tickle him until he says, "I'm your baby!" Works every time :)

She pulls the "big girl" on me too. She asked me the other night if she could get her ears pierced. I said no, she had to wait until she was 12.

"But why, I'm a big girl now, everyone else in my class has pierced ears."

Oh, what am I going to do when she's 15?

Seriously that is too cute. Call me Monster Child. Just wait Anne, one day she'll be saying "Mom, I'm not a child, I'm a woman!"

Kids are just the best sometimes aren't they?

*giggle*

My 8 yr old would totally have said that 2 years ago, now she'd fuss about being called a child! Maybe that's why I still teach first grade... ;) They are so funny!

...oh yes, she's at THAT age now. Mastering the art of persuasion, discussing such poignant matters as a desirable hair style, or a choice of movie at the Red Box. This stage can fester and last well into their teen years...which then becomes an entirely new conversation altogether:)

Brace yourself, Anne. The fun's about to begin!

Love it. My son asked me last night why the show is called "Two and a Half Men"

I explained that it was because one guy was a boy, and he was considered the half-man. I said, Like if me and your uncle and you all lived together.

He said, We'd be three men, Daddy.

He's almost 10.

Yours won't be Monster Child for long...
